His recordings have advanced the study of the history of prestigious British rock bands, from the Jeff Beck Group era to Rainbow, Whitesnake, and Black Sabbath. Even limited to live recordings and footage, there are masterpieces that have left a lasting impression on fans' memories, such as \"When Evening Falls,\" capturing the evening performance at the Budokan from their first performance in Japan in December 1976 to their final show, and the top-quality pro-shot footage from the Graham Bonnet era with \"Monsters of Rock.\" This release, \"Long Live Rock 'N' Roll Rough Mix,\" as the title suggests, offers a glimpse into the production process of the 1977 \"Long Live Rock 'N' Roll\" album through rough mixes of the tracks. This album uses reel tape, handwritten \"4th July 1977,\" directly from the master, believed to have belonged to Cozy. The tracks, with their different mixes, vivid textures, and different track ordering from the final version, will surprise even the most discerning fans, creating a series of familiar yet unfamiliar experiences. After a tour of Japan in December 1976, the band took a month off and began rehearsals for a new album in January 1977. In February, Jimmy Bain was fired and former Tempest bassist Mark Clark joined the band. Rehearsals began at Pirate Sound Studios in Los Angeles. The band initially planned to record the album at Music Land Studios, but the studio was fully booked, so they moved to France. Recording began in March at Strawberry Studios, attached to the Château de Herville near Paris. However, Richie struggled to adapt to Mark's fingerpicked bass playing, and he was eventually fired in May. Unable to find a suitable replacement, Richie was forced to take on bass and complete the album that would become \"LONG LIVE ROCK 'N' ROLL.\" The July 1977 date written on the reel box corresponds to the time when, according to Richie's comments, \"recording had been completed by the original line-up, with the exception of 'Gates of Babylon' and 'Rainbow Eyes'.\" While the band would have hoped to complete the album by this time, delays forced the band to cancel scheduled tour dates. Bob Disley and David Stone joined the band in August, and a European tour began in late September. However, the tour was disguised as a promotion for the live album \"ON STAGE,\" and the completion of \"LONG LIVE ROCK 'N' ROLL\" was delayed until late 1977. In other words, the \"Long Live Rock 'n' Roll\" included on this album is a take from a time when the band was without a permanent bassist. According to a recent interview with Bob Disley in a recent issue of Collector's magazine, he played bass on three tracks on the album: \"Kill the King,\" \"Gates of Babylon,\" and \"Sensitive to Light.\" It's said that Richie played four tracks on this album: \"Long Live Rock 'n' Roll,\" \"Lady of the Lake,\" \"L.A. Connection,\" and \"Sensitive to Light.\" If this is a take without Bob, then \"Kill the King\" and the ambiguous \"The Shed\" might also be Richie's playing. The opening track, \"Lady of the Lake,\" features a 15-second keyboard intro that doesn't appear on the final version! This is a surprise similar to \"Stargazer\" from the \"Rising Rough Mix.\" \"Sensitive To Light\" seems almost complete, but the cymbal reverberation is about two seconds longer than on the current CD. \"L.A. Connection\" is included in a longer version, clocking in at 5 minutes 35 seconds. At just under three minutes, Ronnie's vocal part, absent from the final version, is impressive. There's also no piano backing. The highlight of this album is the fourth track, \"Kill the King.\" The bassline is completely different from the final version, creating a completely different impression. As mentioned above, Bob played bass on the final version, so the playing here is likely either Richie or Mark Clark. \"The Shed (Subtle)\" is particularly rough on this album. It lacks the slide guitar intro at the beginning, and the guitar solo from 1:39 to 2:23 has yet to be dubbed. Since Bob apparently didn't play on this track, is it Richie's? \"Long Live Rock 'n' Roll\" is almost complete, but the fade-out is a moment too late, allowing you to hear the final \"Rock 'n' Roll\" following the final \"Long Live...\" (not officially included). The final track, \"Rainbow Eyes,\" is one of the highlights of this recording. At this stage, it features real string and wind orchestration. There's no three-minute guitar solo, no beautiful flute solo, and no chamber music-like embellishments like the final version, making it even rougher than \"The Shed (Subtle).\" From the middle of the track onward, only guitar arpeggios and Mellotron flutes provide backing, making the overall track very simple. However, this take also allows you to fully appreciate the quality of the songs and Ronnie's superb vocals. The classic \"Gates of Babylon\" is unfortunately not included, but the musical tones are natural throughout. It's easy to see that it was recorded with the correct tone, before Martin Birch processed it. Disc 1 contains the original reel-direct take, while Disc 2 contains a remastered version with enhanced sound quality for easier listening. Each version has its own unique appeal and characteristics.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Others","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":52633768591676,"sku":null,"price":37.05,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0956\/5801\/7084\/files\/ICD-000247-1.jpg?v=1768609581","url":"https:\/\/worldmusiclover.com\/fr\/products\/rainbow-long-live-rock-n-roll-reel-remaster-white-label-disc-2cdr","provider":"WORLD MUSIC LOVER","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
