This release captures a live performance from the Jeff Beck Group's elusive "third lineup" US tour—specifically the August 4, 1972 show at Curtis Hixon Hall in Tampa, Florida. For this tour, Beck had dismissed the popular "second lineup" members (Bob Tench, Cozy Powell, and Clive Charman) and recruited Carmine Appice and Tim Bogert (who would later form BBA) along with vocalist Kim Milford. This rare concert took place during a tour that lasted only about ten days; Milford was fired due to poor performance and replaced by the returning Bob Tench just before the "fourth lineup" began. Thanks to the rhythm section of Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice, the performance itself is solid and stable, allowing Jeff Beck to play with a sense of calm and confidence. As the concert occurred less than ten days after the lineup change, there may be some rough edges depending on how you listen; however, the fact that they achieved such a polished sound in such a short time is remarkable, making this a historically valuable item. Regarding sound quality: while this is an audience recording that reflects the era of the source material—including some occasional instability—the master tape has been restored and noise-processed as much as possible for this release.
