Live at Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, December 3, 1984

A live recording from the first day of their Toronto concert on December 2, 1984, was released under the title "Toronto Garden." It was a very appealing title, featuring rare performances of "Under the Cherry Moon" and "I Wanna Be Your Lover." L.C.B.S.N. has now unearthed and released a high-quality audience recording of their Toronto performance the following day, December 3! This is what could be called the oldest Sheila E. opening performance, a fresh performance shortly after Prince sent Sheila E. to Europe to train as an opening act for Prince...but what's with this erotic MC? Sheila's masterful percussion, already a veteran of the stage, was already showcasing her extraordinary talent in front of Prince and the audience at this time! Perhaps inspired by this groove, Prince's live performance was also incredibly energetic! While the first half of the set was rather aggressive, the middle half, as if to rebuke the band, was subdued and captivating! The beautiful piano melody of "Free" was captivating, followed by a medley of "Take Me With U." This early set, performed without a band, is also a rare treat, featuring only piano. From the eight-minute long "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore" to the mellow piano playing of "Dirty Mind," Prince truly showed his genius, embodied in the majesty of Schubert or Bach. And then, for the encore, "Baby I'm A Star," a rare 18-minute performance, even for an early album. The second half, featuring repeated renditions of "Ice Cream Castle," was incredibly funky! He even performs the super rare funky outtakes of White Girls! Baby I'm A Star doesn't get any funkier than this! Eric Leeds is probably on board, but what's with this crazy blow? The band plays like they're in a frenzy, and Prince, who had been holding back until now, starts shouting like crazy, giving us a massive dopamine release!
