This masterpiece features all of the surviving rolls of tape capturing the so-called Rooftop Concert, held on the roof of Apple on January 30, 1969. From the long-famous A-rolls to rolls capturing passersby's reactions, whose presence on the performance is now considered significant, this collection includes essential audio for any fanatic who enjoys the Rooftop Concert. This rooftop concert project was originally launched under the guise of "performing in front of a public audience for the first time in about two and a half years, and filming a TV program capturing the rehearsal for that performance," but after George's temporary departure, the purpose was changed to "recording an album and producing a theatrical film capturing the performance." However, as a remnant of the originally planned "performing in front of a public audience for the climax scene of the film," the concert was a delicately balanced mix of live performance, recording, and filming. Held outdoors in the frigid British winter, the performance is full of driving energy, hinting at the potential of The Beatles as a live band, and also allows one to imagine what it might have been like if the "performance in front of a public audience" had gone ahead as originally planned.
