This recording captures Eric Clapton's live performance at Budokan Hall, Tokyo, Japan, on December 3rd, 1979. This was his fourth tour of Japan. He performed in nine locations nationwide, and this recording captures the first of two Budokan shows. The Budokan held a special significance for Eric from the beginning of his Japanese tours. His performance is particularly spirited and superb, partly due to the promotion of his 1978 album "Backless." The concert features a strong bluesy guitar style throughout, making it a highly accomplished early Japanese performance that many Eric Clapton fans consider his best period. It also includes tracks cut from officially released live albums, allowing listeners to fully appreciate the Budokan performance. The sound quality is excellent, as it's an audience recording. While there have been some releases of the 1979 Japan concert in the past, most of them lacked good sense of distance and clarity. The source used for this item is of such high quality that if it were released in real time, it would undoubtedly be mistaken for an SBD (Soundboard Recording). It captures the directness of the performance, the separation of sounds, and is recorded without interference from audience noise. Hiss noise has been removed as much as possible, and the overall tone has been adjusted and remastered, making it a truly definitive recording of the 1979 Japan concert.
