This album features two recordings that reveal the private interactions between the Beatles after their breakup! This powerful album combines a session from John's 31st birthday party, which Ringo attended, with the only surviving session between John and Paul from 1974 after the band's breakup! The 1971 recording was recorded at John's birthday party, held at the Syracuse Hotel in New York. It features the feel of a private party, with acoustic guitar accompaniment and an upturned bucket used as percussion, accompanied by a roomful of people singing along. The performance has a campfire vibe, featuring a large group of people, including Ringo and Maureen Starkey, Klaus Voormann, Jim Keltner, Phil Spector, and poet Allen Ginsberg, and includes Buddy Holly standards, Dylan numbers, and even Beatles hits. The 1974 recording is from a jam session that took place at the Record Plant in Los Angeles on March 28th.
The lineup was John on piano, Paul on drums, Stevie Wonder on keyboards, Jesse Ed Davis on guitar, and Bobby Keys on saxophone. John primarily sang, with Paul and Harry Nilsson also adding occasional vocals.
