Formed by Cream's producer, Felix Pappalardi, Mountain was hailed as the second Cream at the time, and their distinctive, hard-rocking guitar work, especially that of the hulking guitarist Leslie West, was highly praised by many fans. However, they disbanded after only two years of activity following their debut album in 1970, and this live performance is from their final period as Mountain after their 1973 reunion. The concert, which began to the roar of cheers from many fans, was a mature and superb display of hard rock, with a parade of hit songs performed that day. Leslie was in top form, and his superb playing can be fully appreciated. The coupling track, West, Bruce & Laing's 1972 performance, is by a band that has been almost deified in some ways, with Cream's bassist Jack Bruce as the main focus. The sound itself is a mix of Cream and Mountain, and the live performance recorded on this item was a mini-tour that also served as a warm-up for the band before the release of their debut album. Even before their debut, the venue's energy was at its maximum, and the songs performed were selected from both Cream and Mountain, making it enjoyable in terms of content, with the difference in bassists on "Mississippi Queen" being a particular highlight. The sound quality for Mountain is SBD (Soundboard Recording), while West, Bruce & Laing are Audi (audio recordings).
