The Family / The First Avenue (1BDR+1CDR)

The Family's first and final live performance with the original lineup took place at First Avenue on August 13, 1985. Professional footage from inside the band has been remastered and upgraded to 1080p quality for this Blu-ray release. Paul Peterson's vocals and keyboards are superb, and their live performances were well-received. It's clear to see that if they had continued, they would have been recognized. Susannah Melvoin's vocals could use a little more, but she's very charming and could have become a major star had she continued practicing. Jerome Benson's MCing and dancing were lively, and if the film "Under the Cherry Moon" had featured just Paul, Susannah, and Jerome, the band would have been highly acclaimed. The set features live arrangements of the studio versions from the album "The Family," reminiscent of the band's later Parade tour. The second half of "High Fashion" features a completely different instrumental part, and includes "Holly Rock" (Krush Groove, September 30, 1985), which has not yet been released on "Mutiny." Miko Weaver's guitar cutting is particularly superb.
The audio portion of the remastered video has also been remastered and released on the CDR. Bonus features include outtakes related to The Family. "Rough" and "Feline" were considered for inclusion on The Family, and Prince's versions of these songs are included. "Yes" is the original, longer version.
