This recording captures the live performance at Gaelic Park in New York, NY, on August 2, 1972—part of the elusive US tour by the "third" Jeff Beck Group. For this lineup, Beck had dismissed the popular members of the "second" group (Bob Tench, Cozy Powell, and Clive Chaman) and recruited Carmine Appice and Tim Bogert (who would later form BBA) along with vocalist Kim Milford. This tour lasted only about ten days; Milford was fired due to poor performance and replaced by the returning Bob Tench, making this a rare document from the brief period just before the launch of the "fourth" group. Thanks to the presence of the rhythm section of Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice, the performance itself is solid and stable; Jeff Beck sounds at ease, delivering a composed and confident performance. As the concert took place less than ten days after the previous lineup change, there may be some rough edges depending on how you listen, but the fact that they achieved this level of polish in such a short time is remarkable, making this a historically valuable item. Regarding sound quality: this is an audience recording that reflects the era of the source material and exhibits some occasional instability, but the master tape has been restored—including noise reduction—for this release.
