These studio demos, recorded prior to the recording of George's 1970 debut solo album, "All Things Must Pass," have been newly remastered and released on the Strange Apple label. Featuring almost entirely acoustic demos by George alone, they include tracks not included on "All Things Must Pass" and unreleased tracks, making this a quality item that will satisfy both newcomers and hardcore fans alike.
The main recordings were originally released in 1995 by Yellow Dog's Strawberry label as "Beware Of Abkco!". Their high quality was such that portions of these recordings were used when "All Things Must Pass" was remastered and reissued as a New Century Edition in 2000. The use of this recording on the official release, along with credits and George's comments, reveals that the band performed at Abbey Road Studios on May 27, 1970, to play some of their original material for producer Phil Spector. What's particularly noteworthy about this release is its pure, unadulterated performance, a stark contrast to the heavily produced All Things Must Pass. With the exception of "Wah-Wah," "Hear Me Lord," and "Nowhere To Go," the album is comprised of pure acoustic demos, with half of the tracks missing from the official releases and unreleased tracks. "Art of Dying," in particular, is a version that encapsulates the brilliance of the demos. This release features remastered versions of the main recordings and two additional tracks, both of which are available on the official releases. While the main sound source is a separated stereo sound source, the official version has a gentler separation closer to the center, and the stereo mix has an edgy, bright overall texture, so it's fun to take this opportunity to listen and compare. As an added bonus, the two demos "Nowhere To Go" and "I'd Have You Anytime," recorded at Dylan's Woodstock home in late November 1968, are also included.
