Here is a recording of a superb performance at the Whisky a Go Go by the British female-fronted punk band Penetration.
The setlist draws generously from both their first and second albums.
Pauline Murray’s vocals—husky yet soaring, possessing a quality perhaps better suited to pop than straight punk—are absolutely irresistible. Naturally, they deliver a high-octane rendition of their debut single and punk classic "Don't Dictate," but their cover of the US punk queen Patti Smith's "Free Money" is also impressively cool.
The band took their name from a song by The Stooges.
They are a pivotal band in the evolution of the New Wave sound.
