A release featuring two outstanding soundboard recordings from the 1999 Tour!
Disc 1 contains a perfect soundboard recording from the 1999 Tour. It is an exceptional performance that stands as a definitive example of the tour in terms of both sound quality and content. The show features a series of very straightforward, funky performances leading up to "D.M.S.R.," but the concert is temporarily halted mid-song due to apparent keyboard trouble. Prince fills the time with improvised interaction with the audience until the equipment issue is resolved, after which the performance resumes.
The piano segment is also a highlight. It begins with "Still Waiting"—a song rarely performed—incorporates a few bars of "Gotta Broken Heart Again," and then transitions into a magnificent rendition of "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore." This performance ranks among the very best from the entire tour.
Disc 2 features rehearsal recordings for the *1999* tour, believed to have taken place in early 1983 during preparations for the tour's second leg. These rehearsals are fascinating because many songs are performed differently than they were during the actual tour. For instance, while "Delirious" was played only during the encore on the actual tour, here it is positioned in the middle of the set and flows directly into "Do Me, Baby." There is also an interesting sequence where "Head" segues seamlessly into "Lady Cab Driver," followed by a piano section—a stark contrast to the actual tour, where "Lady Cab Driver" always followed the piano section. Another highlight is the rehearsal of "When You Were Mine" as a duet, with Dez Dickerson sharing lead vocals with Prince. A standout moment is the superb, extended version of "D.M.S.R.," in which the lyrics "Dance, Music, Sex, Romance" are replaced with "Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Root Beer, Pussy." Although there is some slight hiss in the latter half, the audio is a crisp, clear soundboard recording. It stands as perhaps the finest document of the *1999* era.
