Purple Rain
Purple Rain is surely the album Prince wanted to surpass. Now, the unedited version is here!
At the end of 1982, Michael Jackson's monster album, Thriller, was released. The unedited version was about 60 minutes long, and since it was vinyl at the time, the sound quality would have deteriorated, so the individual tracks were edited down to 46 minutes. Around the same time, Prince released the two-disc masterpiece 1999, which was a hit, but it didn't quite reach the sales of Thriller. It's said that Prince also wanted to make Purple Rain a two-disc set, but he likely edited it down to a single disc release for film soundtrack and, above all, sales reasons. As a result, "Purple Rain" became the highest-selling album in Prince's history, by far.
This time, we've ignored sales and created an unedited "Purple Rain" that incorporates everything Prince ever dreamed up. The intro begins with Prince's reversed vocals from "Darling Nikki," reprising the line, "Hello, how are you? I'm fine 'cause I know that the Lord is coming soon, coming, coming soon." "Let's Go Crazy" features a Special Dance Remix, and all the other tracks, except for "When Doves Cry," are included in their original, alternate, or full versions, like "Purple Rain." The result is a compilation that, like "1999," offers a glimpse into what "Purple Rain" might have been like if it had been released in the CD era, allowing fans to enjoy Prince's world for a longer period of time.
