The Guild, Menlo Park, CA
February 6, 2026

This is a superb audience recording of Sheila E.'s live performance at Menlo Park on February 8, 2026. While there are covers of Sly Stone, the Pointer Sisters, and P-Funk, it's especially delightful to see so many Prince-esque songs played. They perform Beatles' "Come Together" (which Prince also played), Prince's "Leader Of The Band," and even some more obscure tracks like "The Word" from the album 3121. The Latin flavor of "Get On The Boat," which Sheila also participated in recording, shines through even in Sheila's band's performance. Then, after an MC mentioning the movie Crash Groove, they played Holly Rock, The Belle of St. Mark with its incredible synth riff, and the groovy Love on a Blue Train, which Sheila sings as Love on an E Train—a stylish arrangement. From A Love Bizarre, to the studio version-like Girls & Boys, and It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night, Sheila's version is wonderful. Controversy, which might be even funkier than Prince's, the development of Alphabet St., and the transition from Sheila's song Rockstar to Purple Rain brought tears to my eyes. Erotic City, the first song Sheila ever sang, Let's Work, Prince's live staple U Got the Look, America, which Sheila covered with its original live arrangement, and a beautiful performance of Free, followed by Baby I'm a Star, which brought the house down, and finally, The Glamorous Life as the grand finale.
