★This release also includes a TV special broadcast in 1966, a rare piece of footage that highlights the band's Japan tour after the show's inception. Additional TV news footage from the time is also included.
The Beatles' 1966 Japan tour has become legendary. To commemorate the 55th anniversary of their Japan tour in 2021, a highly anticipated new collector's edition, "The Beatles in Japan 1966: Archive Collection," will be released on the SGT label as the second release, following "The Beatles in Japan 1966: Master Collection"! While the "Master Collection" features the unedited original masters of the two Budokan concerts, the "Archive Collection" is a true-to-title archive video collection, encompassing previously aired versions, TV specials, news footage, and even video versions. DVD 1 features the first-ever "rebuilt" version of the 1966 TV broadcast, perfectly recreating the original, including commercials and captions. While color broadcasts were groundbreaking at the time, this version was recorded in black and white, including the surviving commercials. This nostalgic vintage footage was the only way most people who watched TV in real time could have seen it. Next, we have the special broadcast from 1978, the first and only TV rebroadcast of the show 12 years later. While this is a rebroadcast, it is not the July 1 performance originally broadcast in 1966, but the June 30 performance, which was previously banned, and is now a historic program, featuring live footage of the opening act not available in later rebroadcasts or on video. This complete edition, featuring even longer footage than the previous SGT. label Japan tour titles, features the entire program, uncut, including nostalgic commercials, making this a must-see for the first time. DVD 2 features a special rebroadcast of the 1980 Wings Japan tour, which was canceled following Paul's shocking arrest. This special, revisiting the history of The Beatles and conveying the circumstances of the time, including comments expressing the disappointment of the canceled performance, is not to be missed. Next up is the 1988 special, the third and final TV broadcast. This rebroadcast features exclusive live footage of the three artists, along with Elvis and Michael Jackson, and is a remastered version featuring enhanced comparison scenes. It also includes documentaries from the time and interviews with those involved, providing a unique look at the original. DVD 3 features the first 1984 video release, newly digitally converted in the highest quality possible! Compared to reissues, this original video release has long been highly regarded among collectors. Also included is the 1993 laserdisc version, which features different captions and track listings. The two previously released versions, different from the TV broadcast, are both included in their entirety, allowing you to compare the differences. An additional bonus feature is a color edition of the "rebuilt version" of the 1966 TV broadcast. The final DVD, DVD 4, features "TV and News Films," featuring rare TV documentaries and news footage from the time. The 1966 TV special is a must-see documentary, capturing the excitement leading up to the show and the social climate of the time. Also included are documentaries looking back on the time, "The Beatles' Stormy Five Days in Japan" and "The Beatles' 103 Hours: 40 Years in Japan." This four-DVD set includes all the differently edited TV broadcasts and video footage, as well as the Japan tour documentary. This ultimate archive video collection totals over 8.5 hours, making it a must-see for research into The Beatles' first and final Japanese tour!
