This is a reissue of a rare title from a handmade label by collectors for collectors, which was distributed only in very limited quantities. While copies quickly circulate these days, this item is an officially licensed reissue using the master tapes.
This recording is credited to a "Special Trio," but as the title "New Orleans Jam" suggests, it's a truly special trio comprised of session masters. With this lineup, they could probably keep playing for tens of minutes. Led by slide guitar genius Sunny Landreth, who has recently gained some recognition in Japan thanks to Peter Barakan's enthusiastic endorsement, the trio includes George Porter Jr., a New Orleans funk heavyweight who is in high demand for sessions in various fields, and the lesser-known jazz drummer, Ginny Vidakovich. While you can hear the audience cheering during the relaxed session sections, the sound quality is good enough to fully enjoy the live performance. The encore is the blues classic "Key to the Highway," made famous by Eric Clapton. This song is one of Sunny's signature tunes and is a must-listen track.
