Buddy Guy, who turned 77 in 2013, delivers a performance that makes you honestly wonder, "What is it about this that stirs such passion deep inside?" He doesn't simply power through the set with brute force from the start; instead, the show unfolds in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere where he chats extensively between songs, making the audience laugh. Yet, whenever a song is actually played, the energy level skyrockets. It is a testament to Buddy Guy's unique artistry that he is one of the few performers capable of delivering such memorable, soul-stirring music. As a bonus, the disc includes six tracks—the best takes—from a soundboard (SBD) recording of his April 5, 1973, show at the Shaboo Inn in Mansfield, Connecticut. Although the source is an audience recording, the quality is excellent; it captures a direct, immediate feel with remarkable clarity and a consistently stable, immersive sound.
