This is a live recording from 1975 by the quintet of acoustic bass giant Charles Mingus. This was a period when they were quite active, having released the albums "CANGES ONE" and "CANGES TWO". The quartet members are the same as those albums. While it might seem like only four tracks, each is quite lengthy, with "SUE'S CHANGES" exceeding 30 minutes. While Mingus has pioneered new jazz worlds as a composer, with classics like "Ape-Man Erectus" and "The Clown" being his signature pieces, his improvisational skills in the 70s were also superb. His passionate performances with the legendary duo of George Adams and Don Pullen, which teeter on the edge of free jazz but never quite reach that level, are a must-listen.
