A recording of Led Zeppelin's legendary Carnegie Hall performance, hailed as one of their greatest performances, has finally been unearthed. Essential to any Zeppelin performance is the band's driving force, John Bonham, aka Bonzo. Bonzo himself later described this performance as one of his best. At the time, it was extremely rare for a rock band to perform live at Carnegie Hall, with only two prior examples being The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Furthermore, Carnegie Hall was the very stage where Bonzo's two idols, Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich, engaged in a fierce battle. It goes without saying how deeply attached Carnegie Hall was to Bonzo. This preface should give you an idea of how eagerly awaited this recording has been for fans. It's an astonishing discovery.

Fans are already familiar with the performance, so to get a sense of the recording itself, it's a fairly good audience recording. While Plant's vocals are a bit buried, Page's guitar and Bonzo's drums are powerfully captured. An original remastered version by an overseas enthusiast was also released in conjunction with this discovery, but the over-equalized highs are quite harsh. This item has been remastered using the master recording and the label's own original remastering.
