Meadowbank Stadium, Edinburgh, July 29, 1993
In contrast to the latter half of the 1993 Act II Tour, which toured Europe, which featured a fairly greatest-hits feel, the July concert immediately following the tour's start lacked a fixed setlist and featured new songs and alternate phrases. This is largely unnoticed by fans. This is due in part to the lack of live releases from this period, and the poor sound quality of the Edinburgh concert, even during trade shows, made it unsuitable for detailed recording. FBG has acquired a newly discovered recording, completely different from the existing trade tapes, and is releasing it on CD! This exceptionally high-quality audience recording will allow you to enjoy the full story of the third day of the Act II tour! Prince's aggressive guitar work on "She's Always In My Hair" and other tracks, along with a rare piano rendition of "God Created Woman," are featured in the first half. Despite a robust jam run of "1999," "Baby I'm A Star," "America," and "It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night," he also plays some new material. Since it was the night of his name change, he even plays "What's My Name?", a Prince-inspired speech that includes lyrics from "Race," the polar opposite of "Victor and My Name Is Prince." He then raps during a roaring rendition of "Come," before launching into "Endorphinemachine." Johnny and I play rare new material, NPG-style tracks typically featured at aftershows around this time, all in high-quality audio. This encore section, with its often unheard-of sound quality and performance, is undeniably the best of the Act II tour!
