The Purple Rain tour, with its many trials and tribulations, leaves much to be desired. The later stages, especially, featured new songs in anticipation of the release of the album Around the World in a Day, which is particularly fascinating. Among these, a rare live performance at Worcester Centrum on March 28, 1985, has been released as a soundboard recording. It's a complete recording. The mix, with keyboards, guitar, and vocals at the forefront, offers a different sonic feel than the soundboard recordings from Syracuse and the final show. This performance undoubtedly marks the debut of "4 The Tears in Your Eyes," which was later used for "We Are the World." Prince introduces the new song and sings it sincerely, creating a melancholic performance accompanied by Wendy and Lisa's chorus. The album continues with the blues-heavy "I Got Some Help I Don't Need," a cover of B.B. King's "I Don't Need," followed by rare tracks that feel like an after-show. "When You Were Mine" is also a rare gem, but then a piercing rock guitar riff leads into the beautiful melody of "Free." Then there's the funky "Head," featuring Eddie M, the horn section staple of later tours, the equally beautiful "Still Waiting," the pop-heavy "I Feel 4 U," a light piano rendition of "Something in the Water," and finally "I Wanna Be Your Lover." The album is packed with incredibly rare tracks. The medley of "Irresistible Bitch" and "Possessed" also features a powerful funk that will have you moving. "God" is also performed majestically, and "Baby I'm A Star" features future Revolution dancers like Jerome Benton and Sheila E. band members on stage for an 11-plus minute groove that will have you excited! The album concludes with the powerful 18-minute "Purple Rain"! This is a rare find from 2016!
