5. Interview with Mike Ratledge and Allan Holdsworth
This is a live recording of Soft Machine during the Allan Holdsworth era. Initially, Soft Machine, influenced by Kevin Ayers, was categorized as psychedelic or Canterbury scene, but later moved towards a jazz direction, featuring brass instruments and organ in a band without a guitarist. It was during this time that they selected Allan Holdsworth, a rising star who was highly sought after in jazz-rock progressive bands like Nucleus and Gong, to join the band as guitarist. With Holdsworth added, Soft Machine became unstoppable, releasing the masterpiece album "Bundles," which heavily featured the guitar and strengthened its rock sound. This title allows you to enjoy the most rock-oriented jazz-rock performance from the "Bundles" era in a live setting. While there are some slightly over-leveled sections, this is a soundboard recording. It's a remastered recording from a new master with corrected pitch, and track IDs, including for the medley-style "Hazard Profile," have also been newly organized.
