While the original stereo and mono recordings of The Beatles were remastered in 2009 to a global standard, alternate recordings with different mixes and edits that existed around the world have remained unreleased and remain unremastered. While the "Rarities" collection, which previously collected unreleased recordings from the vinyl era, is now cataloged as "Past Masters," this collection brings together uncataloged alternate recordings as "Rare Masters." CD 1 primarily features recordings released in the UK and around the world. From famous recordings like the hi-hat opening of "All My Loving," the legendary "Tomorrow Never Knows," and the trumpet ending of "Penny Lane," to alternate stereo mixes with completely different separations like "From Me to You" and "I Want to Hold Your Hand," as well as "pseudo-stereo" and single mono recordings unique to the vinyl era, this collection covers all the basic rarities in roughly chronological order. CD2 is primarily comprised of recordings released by Capitol Records in the US, selected from stereo and mono recordings not included in the official "Capitol Box" releases. Conceptually, it's a modern version of the old American compilation album "Rarities." It includes mixes with slightly different echoes and separations, as well as the soundtrack album from the film "A Hard Day's Night," and even edited versions from the Ampex reels of the White Album.
