This album couples soundboard live recordings from two jazz festivals held in Europe in 2011, featuring a Miles Davis tribute band compiled by Marcus Miller and featuring close friends of Hancock and Shorter. Both recordings boast superb sound quality. John Scofield makes a guest appearance at the July 12th Vienne performance, delivering a passionate guitar performance. "JEAN PIERRE" is a hip and funky performance with sampled vocals. While the Vienne performance was relatively funky, the July 16th Vitoria-Gasteiz show had a strong jazz-rock flavor, ranging from Miles' acoustic-era classics to songs familiar from his electric Miles era. Up to "FOOTPRINTS," it was a relentless medley of songs. The groovy bass riff in "DIRECTIONS" is so cool that even rock fans will be thrilled. There are broadcast videos of both performances, but the Vienne performance has severe audio lag and skips, so it has been deliberately made into an audio-only coupling item.
