Released on December 3, 1980, at Salt Lake, on the Zappa-focused SOFA label. A recording that will astound collectors has arrived, featuring digitally remastered recordings of both the early and late shows of the City concert, both taken from high-quality stereo soundboard masters. This is the first time this soundboard master from that day has been released, and once again, it has been remastered with SOFA's unique attention to detail, resulting in a sound quality that is as meticulously crafted as you would expect from a Zappa specialist label. The live performance from Zappa's golden age, with its torrent of songs, is overwhelmingly intense, even if you expect it to be. The band lineup is also perfect, with double vocals by Ike Willis and Ray White, Steve Vai on third guitar, and the now-familiar Vinnie Colaiuta. From the incredibly fast tempo of "Keep It Greasey," which even gives off a sense of menace, to the over 10-minute-long "City Of Tiny Lights," listening to both the early and late performances completes the intense stage presence of Zappa at his peak, making it well worth the listen. Furthermore, Vinnie Colaiuta's performance during this period is one of the finest in his career, making this a recommended album for all drum enthusiasts.
