Beautiful Strange
Prince's 1998 New Power Soul Tour, during which he recorded three albums with Shaka Khan and Larry Graham and performed live as a trio, was incredibly special. While the main show was incredibly fresh and impressive, there were also several after-shows. Among them, the August 28th after-show at London's Cafe De Paris was broadcast on television as Prince's first professionally shot after-show, and was later released exclusively on video as "Beautiful Strange." This time, we're releasing a soundboard remastering titled "Strange Beautiful," utilizing both the broadcast and video footage. The quality surpasses even Sabotage, delivering a sense of realism, instrument separation, and vocal clarity. This is the definitive Cafe De Paris release with the highest sound quality yet! The special edition also includes a DVD of the "Beautiful Strange" footage. The aforementioned broadcast footage and video footage are cleverly mixed together, and promotional clips are also included. Anyway, the important thing here is that all of the Beautiful Strange DVDs available on the market are of a high generation, and none have been ripped directly from the original video. And naturally, there are no younger broadcast footage, so this is the first time we've used pure Beautiful Strange and first-generation broadcast footage. And this time, we'll also be including some incredible excavated sound sources. This is an audience recording from Cafe De Paris during the aftershow. Why an audience when there's a soundboard? It's not. This audience recording captures the entire aftershow. Comparing the setlists, we see that roughly a third of the songs were cut, including "Let's Work," the Prince set on Delirious, and the Shaka Khan set, including the important Prince-produced "I'll Never Be Another Fool" and the climax of "Days of Wild." Some songs, like "Talkin' Lound Sayin' Nothing" and "Baby I Love You," were cleverly edited (naturally). And we also discover that Larry Graham, who wasn't featured in the official footage, joined the show much later, playing some Sly-esque numbers! These cover songs likely couldn't be included due to copyright issues.
