This release features the "Mike Millard Tapes," recorded by Mike Millard, a taper familiar to fans for his exceptional audience recording skills. While several recordings using the Mike Millard Tapes as masters have been released by the same label, you may have noticed that there are two types: the "Brushed Mike Millard Tapes" and the "Legendary Mike Millard Tapes." Not all Mike Millard Tapes have perfect sound quality; some require significant editing and improvement. The "Brushed" series features significantly improved versions. The "Legendary" series consists of recordings that were originally near perfect with little room for improvement, and only minor edits were made between tracks.
This item is a live recording from Genesis' 1977 "Silent Storm" tour and belongs to the "Brushed" series. The master recording of the opening track, "Squonk," had very unstable volume, and considerable effort was put into adjusting it. Furthermore, there was a lot of noticeable applause and shouting from nearby audience members, so the gaps between tracks were also significantly edited. Through this careful editing, this valuable recording has been polished from a mere "historical document" to an "item to be appreciated." This live performance recreates the grand worldview of "Silent Storm," the album that followed "Trick of the Tail." Tony Banks shines in "One for the Vine," which has the lyrical atmosphere of the album cover. The support drummer is Chester Thompson, who came from Frank Zappa's Mothers and Weather Report.
