This release documents Jimi Hendrix's 1969 European tour—which was also the final tour featuring the original lineup—specifically the concerts held at London's Royal Albert Hall on February 18 and 24, including rehearsal material. As the original lineup ceased operations in May following bassist Noel Redding's departure, these recordings are historically rare; the February 24th recording, in particular, allows listeners to enjoy multiple source tapes that vividly convey the atmosphere, including the subtle tension felt by Hendrix himself. Four bonus tracks featuring the best takes from the May 25th San Jose Pop Festival performance are also included. Regarding sound quality, the February 18th show is an audience recording (Aud) while the 24th is a soundboard recording (SBD); although the vocals are slightly low in the mix on the 18th, the overall recording is powerful and dynamic, while the soundboard recording offers a consistently stable listening experience.
