This album certainly aims to capture Prince's complete recordings, both on vinyl and CD. However, Fun With Vinyl is particular about sound quality. Played on a Technics SL-1200MK2 record player, and a Yamaha The audio was recorded onto DAT tape on a Sony PCM-R300 via the RX-Z1's audio/video receiver. The audio was then imported to a PC using a Turtle Beach Catalina sound card and Cool Edit Pro software, where it was remastered to remove clicks and convert to digital WAV files. The sound quality is of the highest order. Another groundbreaking feature is the inclusion of edited versions not previously included in the Anthology series, as well as B-sides that were omitted because Prince was not involved. It also includes remixes of Flight Time singles by Jam & Lewis, Jellybean Johnson, and other artists.

Part 1 features all versions of Party Rebels by Minneapolis R&B duo Centerfold, featuring Monte More and Ricky Peterson. Herb Alpert's "Keep Yourself Alive," fully produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, is reminiscent of Janet Jackson's. Includes all the remixes of Eye On Me, including the Human League's number one Human, and a cool mix of Johnny Gill's number three smash hit Rub You Right Way.
