Pat Metheny's yearning for improvisational jazz, combined with the collaboration of some of the most powerful and unparalleled musicians of his time, resulted in the miraculously beautiful masterpiece, '80/81'.
From the tour of the '80/81' members that took place in the summer of 1981, the year after this historical masterpiece was recorded, the August 29th Hamburg performance is now available in an official-quality soundboard recording.
Disc 1 captures a tremendous improvisational battle unfolding over DeJohnette's overwhelming beats, while Disc 2, in stark contrast, features Michael Brecker's saxophone weaving an exquisitely beautiful melody on "Every Day," and the PMG staple "James" is given a moving climax with an arrangement unique to this group of musicians.
