Prince / A Funky Ride Thru The Park Special Edition (2CDR)
Prince / A Funky Ride Thru The Park Special Edition (2CDR)
Even getting inside Paisley Park is difficult, but who would have thought they'd actually managed to capture it! This is a completely unprecedented audience recording! This is a recording from Thunderball's secret archive! It was partially released under the title All Access, but the tape has now been unearthed. The date is March 21, 1998. First up is a never-before-heard funky arrangement of 18 & Over! Though incomplete, it offers a glimpse of Prince's further musical development! And then there's the nine-minute live performance of Poom Poom! This bouncy rhythm, Prince's backroom funk, has been turned into a live version, even funkier! Prince's vocals and guitar cutting are ingenious! The screams of Honyhons! Freaky keyboards and the coolness of incontinence! And then, continuing the momentum, a flood of super funk with Alphabet St. and Thank U, with Larry Graham appearing! A cool jam that focuses on the instrumentation! Then there's the rock-esque The Jam, which is also incomplete, but features fiery bass, drums introduced by Rhonda Smith, Kirk Johnson, and Prince, and Larry Graham himself, creating a chaotic funk that's hard to understand! Then there's Villanova Junction, with Prince's mournful guitar melody, perfect for a drink! And the final track is astonishingly funky; I haven't heard anything cooler in years! Mad Sex is a fusion of Miles Davis and Prince, reborn with funky effects never heard before! The guitar chops are brilliant, and the horns and vocals blend seamlessly into the sound, embodying a single funk! It's a flood of coolness, repeated countless times, that feels like Prince's secret live performance in Paisley Park! This special edition includes a bonus CD of the original master recording of Villanova Park, previously released by Global Funkschool. This was also an audience recording at Paisley Park, but it was released around the same time. However, you'll probably find the March 21st recording to be even funkier, making this a perfect special edition for comparison!
