To date, there have been four temporary configurations of the Diamonds and Pearls album before it was completed: the first, two second, and third.

The fourth configuration, recorded on March 1, 1991, already included the setlist for the fifth configuration, meaning Horny Pony was included instead of Gett Off. Prince then recorded Push on February 5, 1991. It was added to the album. It uses some musical ideas from a re-recorded version of "Ooh This I Need" made for Elisa Fiorillo's television performance. Rosie Gaines and Tony M contribute vocals, and uncredited strings by Claire Fisher are featured, borrowing from "Old Friends 4 Sale," which was on the third configuration. In "Push," the rap section mentions several of the album's tracks in chronological order. It mentions "Horny Pony" after "Willing and Able," indicating that the band was still called Horny Pony in the fourth and fifth configurations. In fact, Push's rap lyrics are also printed on the back of the Diamonds and Pearls album packaging, but with "Gett Off" added above "Horny Pony."

The fifth configuration is the fourth edited version, and the tracklist appears to be the same as the released album version. Horny Pony was taken from the Fun With Vinyl 7-inch version. The rest of the album features the Dr. Fink remaster, and bonus features include the leaked Daddy Pop 12" version of Diamonds and Love, and the first-ever extended remix of Willing and Able 12" - both originally intended as singles but never released.
