The film's soundtrack, "Purple Rain," is Prince's best-selling album to date. Numerous recordings were made for this album, and outtakes and alternate versions have been released. In particular, the 2017 "Purple Rain Deluxe" featured many newly discovered and unreleased tracks, making it a definitive release.

This new release, "Purple Rain Super Expanded Edition," purposefully includes outtakes, alternate versions, remixes, and unreleased tracks from "Purple Rain." It's a 6-CD set. It's called "Purple Rain Super Expanded Edition."

The 12-inch and 7-inch versions contain only the essentials. This is explained in Anthology and Fun With... Because there's a vinyl series, those are the more complete versions. This time, I focused solely on the songs from "Purple Rain," including full-length versions and outtakes. The "Demo" section primarily refers to Prince's versions of songs he provided, but also includes demos from artists he provided for, and even demos by Prince himself, like Jesse Johnson.

The first three CDRs constitute the Purple Rain Expanded Album. From the opening "Hello How R U" to the full-length version of "Purple Rain," even before "1999" and up until "Around the World in a Day," Prince would often include songs he provided for others on his own albums if he considered them masterpieces. I also included "A Million Miles (I Love You)" and "Nothing Compares 2 U," making "Purple Rain" even longer than the three-disc masterpiece "Emancipation."

The three discs starting with Disc 4 are outtakes that didn't make it onto the Purple Rain Expanded Album. The Time, Apollonia 6, Dez Dickerson, and other family-oriented artists are included here. Also included are rehearsal jams, instrumentals, and fan-made long versions.
