A DVD featuring two sources of live footage from 1992, when the "Becker Brothers" made their full-fledged return to the scene, has arrived. Both are official-quality, professionally shot footage. The first half features their performance at the jazz festival held in Frankfurt, Germany on October 10th. The hyper-live performance by the reunion tour's regular band—a powerful lineup including the Brecker Brothers, Mike Stern, James Genus, George Whitty, and Dennis Chambers—is so incredible that it's hard to describe, and it's no exaggeration to say that it's the highlight video of that year's live performances. The second half, on the other hand, features a performance from three months earlier, on July 10th, at the North Sea Jazz Festival held in the Netherlands, where Dave Weckl is on drums in place of Dennis Chambers. If the first half of the show could be described as "hyper," this one is "groovy," with a constant stream of electrifying phrases, such as Randy's off-beat high notes at the beginning of "Some Skunk Funk." Dennis Chambers and Dave Weckl are both incredibly technical and leading drummers of our time, but their styles are quite different, and in a good way, this adds a unique flavor to the Breckers' familiar songs, making it difficult to choose between the two. This release, which allows you to compare the two shows simultaneously, is a must-have for fans.
