This is an anthology tape of the Jeff Beck Group, featuring studio session outtakes from Group One & Group Two, as well as live recordings from 1972 in Europe. Formed with the original members from the 1967 recording of Jeff Beck's solo album "Truth," this band is considered a root of Jeff Beck's career and was active until 1972. It's famous for having included artists who later became prominent in the rock scene, such as Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, and Cozy Powell. The performance included on CD01 is a BBC studio session performance with a strong bluesy sound, representing the origins of Jeff, Rod, and Ronnie's sound. CD02 features outtakes from the recording of Group Two's "Rough and Ready." While Jeff Beck likely considered the released take to be the best, these outtakes are still highly polished and showcase the band members' technical prowess. The album offers an interesting glimpse into Jeff's evolution towards a more rock-oriented sound. CD03 features the best surviving live takes from Group Two, demonstrating their impressive live performances with powerful sound. The sound quality is excellent, despite the use of a soundboard source and some DJ overvoices and rough editing. Overall, it offers a stable, high-quality sound that allows you to fully appreciate Jeff Beck's origins.
