This contains recordings of session-style rehearsals for Jimi Hendrix's Band of Gypsis' December 1969 debut live performance, specifically for Fillmore. After the breakup of The Experience, Jimi Hendrix formed a new sound project, Band of Gypsy, with Billy Buddy, but it disbanded after only a month, and a new project, The New Experience, began. The session rehearsal recorded on this item, which could also be called a dress rehearsal, is a very interesting recording of all the members in detail, recording sound checks and improvisations, as it was the band's new debut. It is a rehearsal recording that is full of Jimi Hendrix's shouts and improvisations that would never be possible on stage, and you will find yourself listening intently. The bonus track is a soundcheck of Jimi Hendrix and Billy Cox that took place in NY during the 1970 New Experience tour. It is a rare soundcheck during a tour that only includes bass and guitar and does not include drummer Mitch, so it is likely that this is a studio session where Billy accompanied Jimi during his sound check. The sound quality is superb, with a surprisingly direct feel thanks to the use of line sources. While there are some slight imbalances in the recording due to it being a soundcheck, it's not at a level that's bothersome, and it effectively conveys the tension of the Fillmore performance.
