"James Paul McCartney" was produced in 1973 as Paul McCartney & Wings' first television broadcast special show. This TV show, which became a global promotional opportunity for Paul, who formed Wings after the Beatles' breakup and showed his desire to pursue a band, featured a variety of studio performances, the unreleased "Gotta Thing, Gotta Dance," documentary footage, and live performances. It premiered on the ABCTV network in the US on April 16, 1973, and was later broadcast on ITV in the UK on May 10 of the same year. It was later broadcast in Japan as "The World's One-Man Show," making it an unforgettable video for longtime Beatles fans. While video copies with degraded image quality have been circulating for many years, the DVD was released officially for the first time in 2018 with the DX "Red Rose Speedway" box set. Unfortunately, this DVD was an incomplete, edited version with broadcast-quality image quality. This latest special edition DVD features the complete version, remastered in stunning HD and stereo remixed for the first time using the latest AI restoration technology. Compared to the original broadcast footage, every detail, from facial contours to hair, is clearly defined, and even the contours and colors of letters are vividly enhanced, resulting in a stunningly clear, eye-opening video. The stunning upgrade surpasses even the official DVD, and is immediately apparent when viewed on a comparison screen! The original TV broadcast mono audio has also been upgraded to a true stereo remix. This complete version includes the acoustic medley of "Bluebird" and the live performance of "High High High," both of which were not included on the official DVD. The DVD also includes the Japanese TV broadcast version, restored in HD and remastered using AI. The high-definition video is a world apart from the original TV broadcast. The CD includes the complete stereo remix of the TV show, rare studio rehearsals, and live recordings from the soundtrack of the unreleased 1972 film "The Bruce McMouse Show." The studio rehearsal is supplemented with two CDs, including outtakes of a different acoustic medley that wasn't used in the main feature. While "The Bruce McMouse Show" has also been released as a video, the live recordings as a soundtrack are uniquely edited and mixed differently from the "Wings Over Europe" CD, making this the first time they've been released on CD. This highly anticipated 2026 special edition perfectly recreates Paul McCartney & Wings' legendary 1970s TV show, "James Paul McCartney."
