Avalon, Oscar Night Aftershow, Hollywood, LA, CA 23 February 2009 (AM)

Suddenly released by 4Dafunk, this is a soundboard recording of the Oscars afterparty held at Avalon in Hollywood on February 23, 2009. While the audio is uncredited, it's difficult to say for sure. Prince didn't tour in 2008 or 2009, but he did these spontaneous, one-off, after-show gigs, and almost no recordings were leaked. Yet, this rare live performance, held in a VIP-only venue, has been recorded with the highest quality sound, and it's irresistible. The blistering "Shhh" performance is incredible, but the performance of the completely unreleased "The Middle," a melancholic rock tune with Prince's rockish guitar and pop tunes, is truly moving. It was previously thought to be Liv Warfield singing, but upon listening, it's Prince in complete control! Prince is making us believe that everything will go well. The other songs are also in full after-show quality! This is a lively Prince gig from 2009 that you absolutely must hear!
