Act I Tour
Chicago Center, Chicago, April 6, 1993

The Act I tour took place from March to April of 1993. This relatively small-scale American tour is often overlooked, overshadowed by the later European Act II tour. Around 1993 was the dawn of a bootleg CD boom, and it seems European bootleggers were more likely to release the Act II tour, as the audio was easier to obtain at the time. However, even then, there are few releases from the tour around the time of the album "Love Symbol," and the inter-trade recordings haven't been fully unearthed. Amidst this, we have unearthed and released a completely new audience recording of this live performance. In fact, this recording was kept secret by a very small number of traders, but after being uniquely remastered, it has finally been released to the public. Although it is an audience recording, the balance is superb, and it is so well-balanced that it can be mistaken for a soundboard recording with loud cheers, making it one of the finest recordings of the ACT I tour. Most of the ACT I tour has not been bootlegged, but the setlist changes considerably, and this unreleased Chicago performance on April 6th features the rare "Irresistible Bitch" and, for some reason, "I'll Take U There," as well as NPG's "Black MF In The House" and "Gold Nigga," which would later be played in after-shows, and in "Partyman," a phrase from "Loose!" which was not yet released on the album "Come" at the time pops up, and the jam on "Baby I'm A Star" is a special jam that includes "Push" and Peter Gunn's theme. The reason why Act I is fundamentally different from Act II is that the first half of the set consists entirely of songs from the album "Love Symbol." This is a stark contrast to Act II, which, perhaps due to the Prince retirement turmoil, consists of live performances of his hit songs, and it's why the Act I tour seems to have a rare setlist. The Act I tour is where you can enjoy live versions of songs from the album "Love Symbol."
