[Anthology 1: Alternates]
Starting with a newly remixed version of "Free as a Bird," different from the original, the album also features two of the oldest surviving tracks, "That'll Be the Day" and "In Spite of All Danger," in true stereo versions. The Decca Audition recordings, originally in mono, have been remixed into crystal-clear, true stereo. Demo recordings that garnered attention at auctions are also included, all in improved quality. BBC recordings are also resurrected in true stereo. Most of the recording sessions are recorded in a stereo demix that differs from the originals, resulting in differences not only in sound quality but also in editing. The difference is clear when listening to recordings closer to the masters. Additionally, five live tracks from "Blackpool Night Out" in July 1964 are also available for the first time in upgraded audio, recorded in stunningly high-quality stereo demixes. Also included is a rare rehearsal recording from the October 1964 TV show "Shindig!", featuring a fragmented rendition of "House of the Rising Sun."
