The Beatles are famous for their unique, all-white album jackets, featuring only the title embossed and a sequential numbering system. Needless to say, the original was the first album released by Apple Records, the label founded by the Beatles themselves. Its diverse collection of works has been described as embodying all the elements of modern music, making it a secret favorite among Beatle enthusiasts.
This so-called White Album is a collection of solo works, and is also said to mark the beginning of The Beatles' collapse. This title, "The Alternate White Album," was released in 2012 and features rare, high-quality tracks by John and Paul from the album, recorded as Paul and John Sides.
The introduction of 8-track recorders midway through the sessions eliminated the need for all four members to play simultaneously. Since many of the albums were recorded individually, the alternate versions offer a distinctly more vivid sound than the originals.
In particular, acoustic numbers like Paul's "Blackbird" and John's bluesy "Yer Blues" sound very similar, so they're a must-listen!
