Two live recordings from 2021, sure to send Genesis fans into a frenzy, are being released simultaneously. First up is the resurrection of the original Genesis. Original members Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks are still going strong. And the vocals you hear are unmistakably those of Phil Collins. Unfortunately, we can't say he's "ageless." He lacks the sharpness of yesteryear, his highs sound strained, and his pitch is a little questionable at times. He's handed over the drumming position to his son, Nicholas. But even so, Phil Collins is back. The mere fact that these classic pop songs from later Genesis are revived with Phil Collins' vocals is enough to bring tears to your eyes. The two titles released simultaneously, as mentioned earlier, are part of Steve Hackett's Genesis project. The live performances took place at almost the same time. The original Genesis setlist is centered around the later period when Phil Collins was at his peak, while Steve Hackett's project is centered around the mid-period Genesis setlist, but there are overlapping songs such as "First of Fifth," making it exciting to compare them. On guitar, it's Daryl Sturmer versus Steve Hackett, and on vocals, it's Phil Collins versus the Peter Gabriel-type Nad Sylvan.
