A shocking, never-before-seen video has arrived! Early Prince live footage is being released in black and white, but professionally shot. Furthermore, it's a complete version that includes the opening act, The Time. The Time was Prince's band that performed on the Controversy Tour and the 1999 Tour, but while footage from the 1999 Tour exists, footage from the Controversy Tour has never existed until now.
The camera mainly focuses on Morris Day and Terry Lewis, but Jesse Johnson and Jimmy Jam are also shown occasionally. Monte More is also present, and Jelly Bean is on drums—you can enjoy this early live performance featuring the band's peak lineup.
What's amazing is that they play rare unreleased tracks, including the even rarer unreleased track, "Dance To The Beat."
And then there's the main act, Prince. The Controversy Tour had no audience, and only a few pro-shot recordings exist, so you can imagine how precious this live performance is.
From poppy songs like "Uptown," "Why You Wanna," and "Treat Me So Bad," to the sexy "Do Me Baby," and the funky "Controversy," and the exhilarating encore "Jack U Off," the arrangements at this time are incredibly energetic and youthful—a must-see.
A digitally remastered CD-R is also included. As a bonus, it features a soundboard recording of a Minneapolis live performance. This is from a recording intended for a live album at the time, making it another rare find.
