Suicide—the duo of madmen Alan Vega and Martin Rev—stood out as a truly unique force in the 1970s New York punk scene. Their killer, intensely druggy synth lines and crazed, screaming vocals dance wildly atop the beat of a cheap rhythm machine.
This release features a rare audience recording from a 1978 show at CBGB in New York. Centered on the November 4th performance, it also includes two bonus tracks from the previous night's show. Although the sound is slightly muffled, careful equalization has been applied to bring out the definition of the audio.
Their cover of "96 Tears"—originally by the Chicano garage-punk legends ? & the Mysterians—is a must-listen.
Suicide are often cited as the pioneers of industrial music.
