Soul Train, a TV program that symbolizes the golden age of Black music in the 1970s. This is the 6th installment of the best compilation series, compiling rare performances from its precious on-air footage. This time too, it's a fantastic lineup, featuring Marvin Gaye, who doesn't like performing live but made an appearance; the Whispers with their Philly-inspired twin leads by the Scott brothers; Al Green with his large ensemble; the Impressions, who are great even without Curtis Mayfield; the Spinners, supported by Philly sound pioneer Tom Bell; the Independents, a vocal group that includes women; the Staple Singers with their dignified string of classic songs; the lesser-known Philly artist Bunny Sigler; and of course, the legendary Sly Stone, the original disco trumpets, Michael Jackson in his puberty stage, and much more—a total of 120 minutes that can only be described as a treasure trove of Black music.
