This recording captures the first of three shows from Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' 2012 Japan tour, held on May 23rd at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo. It is impressive—typical of Noel Gallagher—that the band returned to play the Budokan just four months after a promotional visit and concert series in January. Having toured as Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds for over a year by this point, the performance is flawless and highly polished; the arrangements reflect a desire to let the music truly resonate, resulting in a performance delivered with great care and precision. Free from the tension that might accompany a debut visit, the band members—and Noel himself—play in a very relaxed manner, fully demonstrating his enduring prowess as a sound creator. Regarding sound quality, although it is an audience recording, the capture is excellent; it is very well-balanced, offering great clarity and a vivid sense of atmosphere.
