In recent years, the "Mike Millard Tapes" have been increasingly digitized from direct masters or low-generation tapes. These tapes were recorded by Mike Millard, a taper familiar to fans for his exceptional audience recording skills. While this label has released several recordings using these newly digitized Mike Millard Tapes as masters, you may have noticed that there are two types: "Brushed Mike Millard Tapes" and "Legendary Mike Millard Tapes." Not all Mike Millard Tapes have perfect sound quality; some have considerable room for improvement. The "Brushed" series features significantly improved versions, while the "Legendary" series features tapes that were originally near-perfect with little room for improvement, with minimal editing such as light cuts between tracks.
This time, we present a controversial work by The Who from the "Brushed" series. This recording was made in November 1973. As any die-hard fan would know, this was a turbulent period. Their sixth album, "Quadrophenia," which was produced in the "rock opera" style for the first time since "Tommy," had just been released. The album itself sold well, but the band struggled to recreate it live. Despite the album heavily incorporating synthesizers, there were no members of The Who who could play them, and they went ahead with the performance without bringing in any support members. In fact, there were many problems, such as the performance not matching the pre-recorded tapes. This chaotic live performance does not contain the "great performances that you can't experience on official albums" that are the charm of bootlegs. Rather, it is a historical document that captures "the chaos of the time and the bloodstone of the band's struggles." The sound quality has been improved considerably, but it is still not at a good level for a Millard recording.
