In recent years, the "Mike Millard Tapes" have been increasingly digitized, either directly from the master tapes or from low-generation tapes. These tapes were recorded by Mike Millard, a taper familiar to fans for his exceptional audience recording skills. While this label has released several recordings using these newly digitized Mike Millard Tapes as masters, you may have noticed that there are two types: "Brushed Mike Millard Tapes" and "Legendary Mike Millard Tapes." Not all Mike Millard Tapes have perfect sound quality; some have considerable room for improvement. The "Brushed" series features significantly improved versions, while the "Legendary" series features tapes that were originally near perfect with little room for improvement, and only minor edits such as slight transitions between tracks are made.
This time, we have The Who from the "Brushed" series. You might think that the "Brushed" finish means the sound quality isn't very good, but that's not the case at all. The sound quality was already quite good, but we polished it further because there was potential to make it even better. The reverberation was a little too strong, so we improved that aspect. This 1980 tour mainly features the album "Who Are You." It's not from their most popular period, but as you can see in the photo, Pete is playing a Telecaster, and it's interesting to hear the difference in guitar sound compared to when he used an SG or Les Paul.
