This pairing features live recordings from Herbie Hancock's 1980s appearance at the Juan-les-Pins Jazz Festival. Both are FM soundboard recordings. While the DJ talk has been cut, cheers are added from other parts, resulting in a perfect edit. Disc 1 is from 1983, featuring a trio with Ron Carter and Tony Williams, a coveted lineup reminiscent of the Lost Quintet. Disc 2 is from 1985, featuring Hancock's solos and two tracks featuring Bobby McFerrin's stunning vocal performance. Both live performances open with Wayne Shorter's "Footprints," but the differences in their performances are striking and enjoyable. Additionally, the Hancock classic "Cantaloupe Island," featuring Bobby McFerrin, features McFerrin's percussive intro and stunning lead vocals, making them a must-have for fans.
