Target Center, Minneapolis, December 11, 1997
This is one of the earliest releases on the Free Boot Generation label. It's a live performance from the band's home base, Target Center, in Minneapolis, from the Jam Of The Year tour, which is not widely available on bootlegs. What's more, this recording is a completely unprecedented release, never before seen on Trader or in The Vault's tape list! This shows just how amazing this label is! As expected, Prince's live performance at Minea is incredibly high-energy, rocking out to the point of his voice cracking! The sound quality is excellent, and while there are no soundboard recordings of the Jam Of The Year tour, this recording rivals that quality in terms of realism, making it a top-notch audience recording! And the performances of Mike Scott and Rhonda Smith, who began to be featured around this time, are fantastic! This recording is a must-listen for anyone wanting to re-evaluate their performances. The encore features a medley of "Let's Go Crazy," "She's Always In My Hair," and "U Got The Look." Larry Graham, who became a close friend of his, also joins in on "Get Off"! He plays a fantastic bass solo! The opening roar, "Is this my home town?", is the title of this album, but the melancholic "Purple Rain" also connects with the audience, making this a truly soulful live performance by Prince!
